Finally finished

Over 5 years after cutting this red oak slab from the tree, it was finally placed in the living room this afternoon. The base was assembled with smaller slab pieces that were joined at angles along the grain of the slab.  The underside & slab edges were painted with the same color as the interior walls in the room and the top was finished with a light oak stain & 5 coats of polyurethane.  The tree that this slab was cut from grew in the Mississippi delta for over 80 years and hopefully, this table will be around that many or more.

The link below shows the slab in the shop after preliminary planing and sanding.  It took roughly 3 days to assemble the base and finish everything.
