Wine Tasting

Yesterday, we and our next door neighbors drove down to the Edna Valley AVA with the intention of immersing ourselves in the sensory joy of wine tasting.  More specifically, we went tasting wines born out of local pinot noir and syrah grapes – two of our favorites grown here on the CA central coast.  The winery was Kynsi.

Don

Here, Don, the owner of the winery, passionately discusses his wine philosophy while Joey, our most knowledgeable host,  hustles wine to a customer at the other end of the bar.   Not only has Joey proved to be a competent host at Kynsi but has also provided many great wine and winery recommendations around the San Luis County area.  That said, we keep coming back here for the comfortable low-key atmosphere and the consistently good wine.

Kynsi Barn

The Kynsi barn is typical of those built in the area in the first part of the last century – and earlier – on local dairy farms.  This is one of few that remain as most of those farms have now been converted into vinyards and produce some really good wine.  The Kynsi logo is a Barn Owl that, according to legend, lived in the barn and provided gopher control around the new vines being planted decades ago.  We heard an owl – sounded like a Great Horned Owl – as we got in our car to leave.  A fitting and  pleasant goodbye….

Summary: The wines were – as they have been each time we’ve visited – excellent.  The weather and the company were fantastic.  The conversations interesting and illuminating.  All in all, another sucessful central coast outing.
