Popo

We climbed Ajusco again – an extinct volcano just south of Mexico City – with some visiting friends yesterday.  The trail up Ajusco is located in such a way as to obscure views of two of the largest volcanoes in Mexico – Popo and Itza.  Just as you arrive at the top of the mountain at about 13,300 ft elevation, Popo and Itza come into view across the vast valley where Mexico City makes it’s home.  Impressive hunks of rock they are but even more impressive when Popo belches a plume of ash from deep inside his warm belly.  Breathtaking.
